That was the most touching part of the whole song for me ;-; during Twilight's and NMM's brief contact with each other Twilight was able to make a connection with what was inside NMM, showing Luna. S1 could of been so much more epic if they had used that concept for the battle between Twilight and Nightmare Moon. Love the picture <3
The show was pretty tame when it started out because they didn't know yet how far they could go. Now that the writers understand just how much they're allowed to do, perhaps there will be something similar to that in the future. Fingers crossed!
It was more Hasbro limiting what they can do at the start. They had to fight just to keep egghead in because it was deemed too offensive at the start. And Hasbro was worried NMM was too scary for children.
That is sort of what I mean. They couldn't really do much at the start. However, once the show began to appeal to a wider audience, and when they found that little kids still liked it despite the seemingly scary villains, they realized, "Oh. We can totally do more." And then we got The Return of Harmony, A Canterlot Wedding, The Crystal Empire (which looks unbelievably awesome)... Thanks to the show's audience, they can now do more and still keep it totally kid-friendly, happy and innocent. I do hope that because of this, they might try and make Nightmare Moon a more interesting villain. One of the writers did say that they were going to cover Celestia and Luna's history regarding that matter, so I have hopes.
No, it's perfectly fine. I too hope they cover their history. It's one of the biggest things I've ever wished for far as any back-story for any character goes, the Princesses and Luna's feelings on the being gone a thousand years after being banish. And how she went from her drained normal foal form to her restored starry mane and tail form.
I always loved NMM. But her powers were restrained by a good 99% in that first season. Lauren herself said how NMM was pure evil and intended great harm to all the lands by plunging the world in an endless night. And we all know what that spells. Celestia had no choice but to banish her sister, as the thing that took over her, was no longer her sister but a being of pure jealousy and hate.
P.S. Luna is best Princess. Nightmare Moon is best underplayed Villain
That's another thing: I really hope that they'll be able to fit in something about Celestia's grief. I know the fandom likes to make a bunch of jokes about how much she hates her sister and how mean she is to her, and I guess that's fine, but I think it'd be really amazing if they showed how Luna's change and her banishment affected her. But the two of them have so much potential, and though I don't think I can expect too much from the writers considering the demographic, I do think that they'll be able to make them into even greater characters. As least as far as My Little Pony characters go.
And yes. Although Celestia is my personal favorite, I will not deny my love for Luna, or her evil half.
